My experience with natural products that support the body's own systems began long before I decided to take the natural route with my family's dietary and personal care needs.

As a new mom, I was like everyone else:  kids were sniffly and they got dosed with some sort of over-the-counter cold medicine.  And I dreaded any new sign of illness because for my kids, that meant instant ear infections and barking cough, along with the inevitable chest infection.  Everytime.  So, after over-the-counter drugs came the doctor visit that always ended with antibiotics.  Rinse and repeat.  And repeat again.

A few years ago, I heard from a friend that oregano essential oil, taken internally, was great during illness and this brought back memories of drinking hot oregano tea as a child when I was sick.  And I remembered other little remedies such as  my parents using a clove a garlic, warmed in olive oil and then wrapped in a piece of cotton, in my ear when I had an earache.  And then the light bulb came on: if generations used these techniques during different illnesses, and not only survived but thrived without drug intervention, well it seemed worth a try.  Prolonged antibiotic use is known to wreak all kinds of havoc on the human body, from an increased link to asthma, damaged gut flora and even antibiotic resistance.  I resolved to purchase oil of oregano at my local health food store and use it the next time a child was sick.

And we did.  Since the oregano essential oil is very strong-smelling and tasting (and hot-feeling), we added a few drops to a beverage and continued that course a few times a day.  And it worked.  Did they feel crummy during their illness?  Yes, illnesses tend to do that.  But using this essential oil reduced the need some medication and the duration illnesses seemed to shortened.

Nowadays, we always keep oregano essential oil in our medicine cabinet, or road trip toiletry bag,  and take a few drops at the first sign of illness.

Lavender and orange essential oils also play a huge part in our family's daily wellness practices.  Lavender has been used for thousands of years for its calming and sleep inducing properties.  We like to rub a drop between our hands and smooth the oil onto pillow cases at bedtime.  Personally, I like to use lavender daily as part of my skincare routine since it is known to be very beneficial to the skin.

Orange essential oil is also used regularly in my household to reduce anxiety and promote refreshing feelings.

*Please note: essential oils are used to support the natural system in the body.  This does not mean medical care is unnecessary.  Every family is different - use your own judgement and consult a doctor when needed.

Why I Switched to Young Living Essential Oils

I used to purchase my essential oils at my local health food store until I realized commercial oils tend to be adulterated and may be unsafe to be taken internally.  After some research I found that there are 4 types of essential oils on the market:

1.  Therapeutic grade of pure oils - oils that are are extracted from sustainably raised plants, a standard set by Young Living Essential Oils.  These oils contain optimal levels of plant compounds found in organic botanicals.

2.  Natural or organic essential oils – essential oils that can pass growing standards but may, or may not, contain optimal levels of plant compounds found in Young Living Oils.

3.  Extended or altered oils – considered fragrance grade oils because they are used for their aroma only and offer minimal, or even undetectable, levels of plant compounds

4.  Synthetic oils – inexpensive oils created in a lab

And Young Living offers a Seed to Seal promise - a process that ensures essential oil purity by careful monitoring the production of the oil from time the seed is sourced until the oil is sealed in the bottle.

Young Living Essential Oils

What drew me to Young Living essential oils is their exceptional standard for purity and authenticity.  In business since 1994, Young Living carefully monitors every step of the production of the oils from beginning to end through a unique seed to seal process, ensuring the purity of each essential oil and protecting nature’s living energy in every bottle.  This unsurpassed commitment to quality means that you can be confident that Young Living therapeutic-grade essential oils are safe and effective.  I trust their essential oils above all others because they are pure and unadulterated and are manufactured for therapeutic use, not just for smell.
